This flag was designed by George Lutz, a Gold Star father from Virginia, after his son died in Iraq in 2005. He went on to create the Honor and Remember organization and this national symbol for American lives lost in defense of our national freedoms.

This is now a nationally recognized flag representing those who lost their lives throughout history in service to our country. According to the Honor and Remember organization: the red field represents the blood spilled by brave men and women in America's military history; the blue star - active service in military conflict; the white border surrounding the Gold Star - the purity of sacrifice; the Gold Star - the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service who will not return home; the folded flag - the final tribute to an individual life that a family sacrificed; the flame - an eternal reminder of the spirit that has departed this life yet burns on in the memory of all who knew and loved the fallen hero. The larger flags have canvas headings and grommets for use on an outdoor flagpole.
